President William Ruto has pointed out that the number of learners in technical colleges in Kenya has risen from 780, 000 in 2022 to 1. 3 million learners.

He said the increase indicates an increasing appreciation of vocational skills as a key thing of nurturing Kenya’s economy and boosting opportunities for youth.

On the first day of celebrations at State House Nairobi during the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) graduation ceremony, 3, 772 graduates received certificates for their skills and knowledge gained through training and experience in building and construction, electrical work, textile and automotive technology, leatherwork, hospitality, ICT and cosmetology, among others.

“These skilled young people have built Kenya even before Kenya recognised them. Today, the country recognises them,” said President Ruto

The training was conducted by NITA, a State corporation. NITA, certified graduates work in building and construction electrical textile automotive leather craft hospitality information and Communication Technology (ICT) and cosmetology.

Ruto stated that acknowledging skills gained through non-conventional education will enable more Kenyans to seize opportunities and get their knowledge recognized.

The President urged skilled workers to download the Fundi Locator App that matches them with potential clients to create more opportunities for themselves.

The launch comes as the government is trying to expand skills development and provide new opportunities for young Kenyans.
