A passenger died aboard a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos after being found unresponsive about 20 minutes before landing in Nigeria.
Kenya Airways said the medical emergency occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at around 9:20pm Nigerian time.
The passenger was found unresponsive while the aircraft was en route to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The airline said its crew immediately administered first aid to the passenger and followed the emergency procedures they had been trained to use.
The aircraft landed at the Lagos airport at 9:41pm, where it was met by medical personnel.
“Upon landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 21:41 hrs, the aircraft was met by medical personnel, and upon further examination, the medical personnel confirmed that the passenger had passed away,” Kenya Airways said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The airline did not disclose the identity of the passenger or the circumstances surrounding the medical emergency.
Kenya Airways said it was providing the necessary support to the deceased passenger’s family while coordinating with local authorities and aviation regulators.
“We convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and apologise for any inconvenience this incident may have caused,” the airline said.
The carrier also said it was respecting the privacy and dignity of everyone involved in the incident.
The death occurred aboard a Kenya Airways flight operating between Nairobi and Lagos, one of the airline’s international routes connecting Kenya with West Africa.
Kenya Airways did not indicate whether the passenger had any known medical condition or disclose the cause of death.
