An act of vandalism has caused the collapse of a transmission tower along the Naivasha-Juja 132kV double-circuit line, disrupting electricity supply through the Ruaraka Substation.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m., according to the electricity utility, which said its teams immediately rerouted power through alternative substations.

Supply to all affected customers was restored by 4:30 a.m., minimizing the duration of the disruption.
Items recovered at the scene indicate that the suspected vandals were present when the transmission tower collapsed. The company’s security team, together with the police, has launched investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, transmission and Airmobile teams have commenced restoration works to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore the transmission line.

The utility condemned vandalism targeting electricity infrastructure, warning that such incidents threaten public safety, disrupt power supply and cause significant financial losses.

It said vandalism cases have increased by 200 percent over the past three months, with 37 transformers vandalised during the period.

The company urged members of the public to report suspicious activities around electricity infrastructure to help prevent further damage and protect the country’s power supply network.
