The Mwache Dam Project has intensified consultations with local leaders, stakeholders and Project Affected Persons (PAPs) as the project moves towards the anticipated dam impoundment.
Project Manager and Water Secretary, Eng. Sam Alima, chaired a series of engagements aimed at reviewing and addressing concerns raised by communities affected by the project.
The first meeting brought together Mwavumbo Ward MCA Hamisi Mkaha, who presented concerns from residents, including access roads, water supply to affected communities and the expected implications of dam impoundment.
Alima later chaired a meeting with community representatives where key issues affecting residents were discussed, including compensation, access roads, preparedness for impoundment, Livelihood Restoration Programme (LRP) inputs and grievances related to blasting activities.
The engagements formed part of the ongoing World Bank Implementation Support Mission for the Mwache Dam Project and provided a platform for stakeholders to strengthen communication and cooperation.
Project officials said the consultations are intended to ensure community concerns are heard, clarified and addressed promptly as construction progresses.
The meetings also seek to promote transparency, accountability and informed preparedness among affected communities ahead of impoundment and the eventual completion of the project.
Representatives from the World Bank, Project Management Unit, RIC, WOKIKE, Akide Advocates, supervising engineers and the contractor attended the engagements.
