Joshua Muraya Kagema, the younger brother of the famous and popular Kenyan philanthropist and entertainer Karangu Muraya, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, following a prolonged illness that had him hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for several weeks.
The Muraya family has been struck by tragedy twice in a quick succession, having recently buried another brother.
Sharing the sad news on his Facebook page, Karangu expressed his grief and devastation at the passing of his brother writing a tribute to him.
“Dear bro, Joshua Muraya Kagema you have gone soon. You promised not to disappoint me but you have done it bro. I remember your last word, Karangu witu Ngai akuongerere nyingi. I don’t know what to do now, I don’t know what to tell mum. Dear Lord this is too much for me,” Karangu said in a statement.
Joshua was a vibrant entertainer in his own right, known for his comedic persona “Wa Cecelia,” Joshua brought laughter and joy to countless fans online. His humor, warmth and relatability made him a beloved figure in Kenya’s entertainment industry.
The sad news of Joshua’s passing has sparked an outpouring of condolences across social media, with close friends like Dolly wa Nonstick Sufurias has shared emotional WhatsApp messages revealing plans to visit him in hospital before his untimely death.
“This life, uwee! Go well Joshua Muraya Kagema. You once came through for me when I lost my child. My condolences to the entire family. Rest easy, bro!” Dolly wrote in a post.
Before his death, close friends, influencers and media personalities including Ndung’u Nyoro and Wambui Wanjihia, joined Karangu in prayers, hoping he would recover.
