The Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Health has initiated work on the launch of Version 3 of the Electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS)
This platform is a next generation digital solution aimed at improving and strengthening of primary health care, disease surveillance, and the implementation of Universal Health Coverage.
Pincipal secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Mary Muthoni speaking at a meeting on revival of Community Healths in Nairobi said the new platform will offer secure, scalable and interoperable digital infrastructure supporting real-time decision, making, improving cybersecurity and enhancing the community health promoters and other frontline health workers’ experience.
The Ministry of Health has invested in support for the community based primary health system by providing more than 100, 000 monthly allowances, medicines packs, smartphones, and digital training facilities.
She further informed that the existing eCHIS platform has enrolled more than 30. 6 million Kenyans living in over 9. 3 million households and provided the health care services of the essentials to more than 17 million people in the entire country.
According to the Ministry, a comprehensive assessment of the existing system found that increasing demand for advanced analytics, stronger interoperability, enhanced cybersecurity and improved performance requires a complete redesign rather than incremental upgrades.
According to the Ministry, a comprehensive assessment found the growing needs for high, end analytics, strong interoperability, advanced cybersecurity and performance improvement necessitate the complete redesign of the system which doesn’t involve only minor upgrades.
The PS cas called on county governments, development partners, technical experts, the academia and innovators to contribute resources in the development of eCHISV3, adding that it will improve health outcomes and advance the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
