Two suspected drug traffickers have been arrested after police intercepted a motorcycle transporting nearly 14 kilograms of cannabis sativa at the Suo Roadblock along the Busia–Kisumu Highway.

Police intercepted the motorcycle at the Suo Roadblock, which is situated along the Busia-Kisuamu High Way. The suspected drug traffickers were identified as Mathayo Mwanzi Anyiga and Moses Nyamaka.

During a security raid, when officers saw a suspicious load on the side of the motorcycle’s pillion, they stopped the two suspected criminals.

According to police, officers discovered eight packages of cannabis sativa tightly fastened to the passenger’s back using straps in what investigators believe was an attempt to evade detection at the roadblock.

After a thoroughly inspection, police found several other cannabis packages inside a black bag.  In total the police confiscated 13. 9kg of cannabis drugs that are estimated to be worth Sh417, 000 on the drugs market.

The two suspects were immediately arrested and taken into police custody, where they are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.

Police also impounded the motorcycle believed to have been used in the trafficking operation, while the recovered narcotics have been retained as exhibits.

Authorities said this capture emphasizes law enforcement officers’ continuous endeavors in combating the distribution and the transit of the illegal substances throughout the main arteries and corridors of the country.

Investigations into the case are underway.
