Authorities have arrested three alleged drug couriers after detectives found and seized cannabis sativa worth about Sh8 million during an anti-narcotics operation in Athi River.

The operation involved the detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), who were working together with officers from DCI Kyumbi on the ground following a tip, off of the drugs movement.

Investigators say the officers stopped a grey Toyota Voxy, registration number KBU 484U, which they believe was just a cover up for the drugs business.

When the vehicle was searched, the police found nine bags of cannabis sativa with a total weight of 270 kgs.

The three suspects, identified as Benson Momanyi, Kennedy Mwanyura, and Wilfred Orina, were arrested at the scene and taken into police custody. They are expected to be processed before being arraigned in court.

Meanwhile, police have impounded the vehicle and retained the seized narcotics as exhibits as investigations continue.

The latest seizure underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the distribution of illegal narcotics across the country.
