Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata’s driver was shot on Sunday after chaos broke out during a Linda Mwananchi rally in Nyahururu.
The governor said his driver, identified as Gitari, was hit by a bullet after suspected goons disrupted the political meeting, forcing supporters to flee.
“My driver Gitari has been shot during the Linda Mwananchi rally,” Kang’ata said in a brief statement.
Videos shared online showed people running for safety as gunshots rang out at the venue. A vehicle linked to the rally was also damaged during the incident.
The rally had brought together several opposition leaders under the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has been holding political meetings in different parts of the country.
By Sunday evening, police had not issued an official statement on the shooting or confirmed who was behind the attack.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over rising cases of violence at political gatherings, with leaders from both sides of the political divide calling for peaceful campaigns ahead of the 2027 General Election.
