Kenyan tennis player Angella Okutoyi has relocated to London, stepping fully into her professional career and beginning a new chapter.
The 22-year-old, relocated to the United Kingdom late last month, where she will base her training and compete with the backing of major international brands and world-class coaches.
In 2022, she made history by becoming the first Kenyan to win a Grand Slam title at the Wimbledon Girls’ Doubles Championship alongside Dutch partner Rose Marie Nijkamp, defeating Canadians Kayla Cross and Victoria Mboko in a three-set final 3-6, 6-4, and 11-9.
Her rise continued at the African Games in 2024, where she won Singles Gold, becoming the first Kenyan woman in 46 years to achieve the feat.
Her college years at Auburn University in the United States has added another chapter, where she and her Egyptian partner Merna Refaat earned ITA Doubles All-American honors for the 2025/26 season, ranked seventh nationally and also helped Auburn reach NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship for the final for the first time.
“I had a wonderful time in college, made some great friends, earned my degree and improved my game substantially. Now I feel fully ready to take on the big world of professional tennis, although I know the challenges ahead of me,” Angella said.
Relocated in South-West London, Angella will train under an elite coaching team that includes Wayne Black, Cara Black and Brett Stephen. Her schedule begins with a tournament in Aschaffenburg, Germany, where she will defend her doubles title before embarking on UK tour.
Her professional journey is supported by financial sponsorship from Swiss entities, Bank Syz, sportswear brand, Yonex rackets, Deloitte, Bowman’s law firm and Performance Medicine. Their support is to ensure she has all the resources to compete at the highest level.
