The National Police Service (NPS) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting agricultural enterprises following the arrest of a suspect found in possession of pineapples believed to have been stolen in Murang’a County.
Acccording to NPS, the Kenol Police Station responded promptly on information from members of the community about motorbikes carrying pineapples, which were thought to have been stolen in the Wempa location.
Responding to the tip-off, the officers proceeded to the location and found a suspect in possession of the produce. Upon noticing the officers, the suspect attempted to flee the scene in a bid to evade arrest. However, the officers successfully pursued and apprehended him.
The discovered pineapples were retrieved and taken away while the investigation commenced. Police inquiries are ongoing as to the origin of the stolen produce and whether further suspects involved. This operation also underlines the importance of the role of members of the public in assisting the authorities.
The NPS recognized that offences involving the theft of agricultural produce and related activities jeopardize farmers’ ability to earn an income and threaten the country’s economic stability.
The NPS confirmed they won’t relent in conducting intelligence led operations in the fight against crimes in agricultural areas and preserve the investments farmers have made all over the country.
