ODM leader Oburu Odinga has signaled the party’s growing role in supporting government service delivery initiatives, using a major outreach programme in Bondo to rally residents behind key national programmes.
The event, dubbed the Afya kwa Umma Mega Government Services Outreach, brought together senior government officials, including Medical Services Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga and Energy Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi, highlighting the increasing cooperation between ODM leaders and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
During the event, Oburu urged residents to acquire and update their national identification documents, describing them as critical for accessing services under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
His remarks come amid ongoing political realignments in the country, where sections of ODM have increasingly embraced collaboration with President William Ruto’s administration on development and service delivery programmes.
Political observers say Oburu’s prominence at the event underscores his growing influence within ODM’s grassroots structures in Nyanza, particularly as the party navigates succession debates and future alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The appearance of Cabinet Secretaries and senior national government officials alongside ODM leaders is also likely to fuel debate over the evolving relationship between ODM and Kenya Kwanza, especially in regions traditionally considered opposition strongholds.
Oburu maintained that leadership should focus on connecting citizens to government opportunities and resources, saying access to healthcare and social services begins with proper registration and documentation.
The Bondo outreach is the latest in a series of government-backed engagements targeting grassroots communities, with ODM leaders increasingly taking centre stage in mobilizing support for state programmes.
