KUCCPS

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has assured students that there is no need to panic after many noticed confusing placement updates on the KUCCPS portal.

The concern emerged after some students who had already received SMS notifications confirming provisional placement later found their portal status showing “Not Yet Placed” after the second revision window closed.

With all these mixed messages, it made many students and their parents anxious, as some went ahead and used social media platforms in their efforts to get more clarification about the placements from the agency.

Many students asked why their portal status had changed even though they had received messages stating that they were already placed in universities.

“Why is my portal, as of now, showing this even after revision two, when I was placed provisionally in revision?” was the question raised by one student.

To assuage their fears, KUCCPS made it known that if they have been placed, then their portal message would not raise any red flags.

“If you have already secured a provisional placement, there is no cause for alarm. You will be informed of the exact programme and university in July 2026,” KUCCPS said.

The agency explained that students who received the placement messages are still considered placed and will receive full details of their courses and institutions later in the year.

The clarification now comes as relief to thousands of students who had been anxiously checking the portal following the second revision exercise.

KUCCPS is expected to finalise university placements by July to allow successful applicants enough time to apply for Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) funding before joining institutions in September.

Students placed in universities are expected to later receive admission details directly from the institutions where they have been selected.

KUCCPS also reminded students that funding eligibility differs depending on the type of institution one is placed in.

Those admitted to private universities will only qualify for HELB loans, while students joining public universities may qualify for both government scholarships and HELB loans under the current funding model.
