Kenyan Musician Nameless

For more than two decades, Nameless has been one of Kenya’s most recognizable artists. His voice, his hits and collaborations with Wahu have defined Kenya’s beloved musicians.

Beyond his music, he has reminded fans and followers his looks are more than just fashion; they are part of his identity and trademark.

In a statement shared online, Nameless declared, “If my own wife doesn’t know how I look bila shades and kofia, wewe ni nani? Kama nimeamua hizo ni sehemu zangu za nyeti, achana na mimi.”

Nameless has been one of Kenya’s renowned artists and singing in the music industry for over two decades. From the beginning, he has reinvented himself while maintaining a signature look: dark sunglasses, durags and caps.

Nameless’s statement comes after the public has tried to generate him on AI without wearing his sunglasses and durag, revealing his true identity without his brand signature.

With fans expecting celebrities to reveal intimate of their identity, Nameless has pushed back, asserting that his look is a boundary he chooses to keep.

He is not the first person to hide his signature behind sunglasses and cap; other artists such as Sia, who is known to hide her face behind wigs, insist that her art speaks louder than her appearance and Daft Punk have built their entire brand around helmets, among many others.

Nameless’s response shows a statement of identity, and a boundary of self-respect.
