Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to hold a press conference focusing on what he terms “the truth behind high fuel prices,” according to a poster circulating online.
The event, branded under the Democratic Change Party (DCP), will be held on 19 May 2026 and is expected to be broadcast live on Facebook at 1300hrs Kenyan time (1100hrs UK time).
The announcement comes at a time when transport operators, including matatu associations, have been pushing for government intervention to lower fuel costs and reduce operational burdens, citing rising expenses as a major challenge affecting public transport fares and livelihoods.
Fuel prices have remained a politically sensitive issue in Kenya, often influencing public debate, demonstrations, and policy discussions around taxation, subsidies, and global oil market fluctuations.
