Government Spokesperson Hon. Sen. (Dr.) Isaac Mwaura has outlined key achievements under the Kenya Kwanza administration during a county tour of Mombasa, highlighting progress in social protection, agriculture, trade, tourism, education, and infrastructure.

Social Protection:
The government disbursed Kshs. 3.52 billion last week under the Inua Jamii Program, benefitting over 1.75 million vulnerable Kenyans. Older persons received Kshs. 2.5B, orphans Kshs. 886.8M, and persons with severe disabilities Kshs. 127.2M.

Agriculture:
The sector grew 4.6% in 2024, driven by fertilizer subsidies and improved food security. The National Fertilizer Subsidy Program cut costs from Kshs. 6,500 to Kshs. 2,500 per bag. This lowered the country’s import dependency to 17.3% and helped reduce inflation, prompting a drop in the Central Bank Rate to 11.25%.

Trade & Tourism:
Kenya’s merchandise trade hit Kshs. 3.8 trillion in 2024, with exports growing 10.4%. Tourism recorded a 14.7% jump in international visitors, and over 782,000 new jobs were created across sectors, with 90% in the informal economy.

Education Reforms:
The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) was streamlined, and a new funding model for tertiary education launched. It targets equity and sustainability by aligning funding with student needs and program costs.

Coastal Development Projects:
In Kwale and Mombasa, dozens of projects are ongoing, including roads, affordable housing, fish landing sites, modern markets, industrial parks, and the Mwache dam. The Shimoni Fish Port and expansion of the Ukunda Airstrip aim to boost the blue economy and tourism.

Dr. Mwaura emphasized that the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) is actively reducing poverty and enhancing equitable development across all counties.
