Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has accused Siaya Governor James Orengo of attempting to revive what he termed a “1994 political script” aimed at taking control of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following the death of party leader Raila Odinga.
In a strongly worded statement, Ledama claimed that Orengo’s current political maneuvers mirror past attempts to seize influence within the Odinga political orbit after the passing of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in the 1990s.
“James Orengo is running a ghost play from 1994, attempting to seize the ODM mantle in the wake of Raila’s death just as he tried, and failed, following Jaramogi’s passing,” Ledama said.
The outspoken senator argued that history demonstrates a consistent pattern in which efforts to challenge the Odinga family’s dominance from within the movement are ultimately contained by entrenched party structures.
Ledama further alleged that Oburu Oginga is playing a central role in maintaining continuity within ODM, suggesting that the current situation reflects a repeat of internal mechanisms that previously curtailed Orengo’s ambitions.
“What we are witnessing is a cycle of defiance and inevitable containment. The same institutional script that neutralized Orengo’s ambitions thirty years ago is being recycled today,” he added.
The remarks come amid growing speculation over succession politics within ODM, with various leaders positioning themselves in the evolving power dynamics of the party.
