Police in Kakamega County have arrested a 43-year-old man suspected of killing his three-year-old daughter and injuring his twin sons who are four years old in a shocking domestic tragedy that has left the residents of Ikolomani at a loss.

The suspect identified as Nathan Shimenga, allegedly carried out the horrific act on Saturday after a domestic dispute with his wife that was reported.

According to the family and neighbors, the couple had a fight that made the wife leave for her parents’ house. It is reported that after the quarrel, Shimenga took a machete and went with the three children – a girl of 3 years and twin boys of 4 years – to a nearby river and there he assaulted them.

Residents who heard the children screaming rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the two boys, but the girl had already succumbed to the injuries.

Ikolomani Police Commander Masai Makau acknowledged the occurrence and said that the twin boys were taken to Kakamega Hospital where they they are receiving treatment.

However, the suspect was beaten by the angry villagers before the police arrived. He is currently at Shibwe Hospital for treatment under heavy security. Still, the police have opened an investigation to find out the matter.
