Kenya Power has announced new plans to reduce the costs associated with the usage of electric vehicles in Kenya amid increased efforts aimed at transitioning to clean energy sources.
The plans come following a recent meeting that involved representatives from Kenya Power and Ghana. During the meeting, both sides shared insights about energy consumption and discussed ways of promoting electric transport across Africa.
One of the most important changes that Kenya Power is willing to undertake concerns the cost of charging electric vehicles. The corporation acknowledged that its current policy might not favor many customers and should be altered accordingly.
As a result of this move, Kenyans might enjoy lower rates when it comes to charging their electric cars. Kenya Power claims that it will encourage more locals to buy and drive electric vehicles by reducing related expenses.
Within the past few months, there has been an increase in the number of electric cars in Kenya owing to the rising costs of fuel and the growing consciousness of environmental conservation issues.
Nonetheless, there are quite a few hurdles faced by numerous individuals seeking to use such cars because of the lack of sufficient charging facilities and preparedness in the areas.
Currently, Kenya Power has admitted that it is striving to upgrade its infrastructure to facilitate a large number of users. The upgrades include the modernization of its transmission system and efficient electricity management.
In addition, there are plans by Kenya Power, together with other private organizations, to introduce more charging points where one can plug in their electric vehicle without having to move around for long.
If everything works well, this program may result in people using electric cars in the future.
