Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen says Africa’s security challenges are deeply interconnected, requiring coordinated responses across the continent.
This understanding underpins the Mashariki Cooperation Conference, an annual forum that brings together security and intelligence leaders from East Africa and beyond to strengthen regional and global security collaboration.
Murkomen joined Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and other dignitaries for the 3rd Mashariki Cooperation Conference held in Diani, Kwale County.
“This year’s theme, ‘Emerging Geopolitical Dynamics and Africa’s Security Architecture,’ has attracted participants from 76 countries across Africa and other continents,” Murkomen said.
In his address, Murkomen urged participants to develop strategies that position Africa as an active player in global geopolitics, rather than a continent largely used as a stage for external interests.
The Mashariki Cooperation Conference was attended by notable figures including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, Chairpersons Nelson Koech and Fatuma Dullo, Justice William Ouko, NIS Director-General Noordin Haji, ambassadors, heads of intelligence agencies, principal secretaries and leaders of regional bodies.
