Jubilee Party has announced plans hold its own campaign meetings across the country, citing that the opposition meetings are favoring Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) contestants.
Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni told reporters on Wednesday, March 4, that Jubilee candidates have not been getting enough time to explain their agendas at rallies organised by the united opposition.
“The rallies by the united opposition do not give us a chance to tell voters our mandate or campaign for ourselves,” Kioni said.
He added that since the opposition agreed not to use zoning, each party now has the freedom to field candidates anywhere. Jubilee wants its own platform to promote its candidates while still supporting the wider opposition movement.
“As we sell the opposition, we also need to sell our own candidates so people can choose leaders they believe in,” Kioni explained.
Kioni also claimed that the current opposition rallies mainly benefit DCP candidates. He said he was even blocked from addressing a rally in Ndaragwa, a constituency he represented in parliament for ten years.
The announcement comes as opposition parties step up preparations for the 2027 General Election. While they continue touring the country for support, the alliance has yet to name a presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto.
