Teachers and students of Kilifi Primary Secondary School have appealed to the government to expedite the distribution of Competency-Based Education (CBE) equipment to schools across the country. They said this will not only enhance practical learning but also academic performance.
The appeal is made after the school was sent a portable science laboratory by the SEPU Institute in Kilifi County, a gift that the teachers and learners described as a great relief. Before, the school had to depend on the neighboring institutions for the laboratory sessions, which limited students’ exposure to hands-on experiments.
Learners, therefore, welcomed the mobile laboratory, as they said it will make them perform the experiments without any difficulties and also their science concepts will improve. On the other hand, teachers argued that the provision of modern CBE tools is a major factor in bringing out creativity, innovation, and also strengthening the teaching of science as per the new curriculum.
They urged the Ministry of Education to distribute CBE learning resources fairly, especially to rural schools, so that the gap in education standards across the country can be bridged.
