President William Ruto has announced a major scale-up of the government’s military housing programme, that will expand accommodation for members of the Kenya Defence Forces.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Roysambu Military Camp Housing Project in Nairobi County, the President confirmed that 3,069 housing units under phase one are currently under construction across military bases in Roysambu, Nanyuki, Gilgil, Lanet and Mariakani, with completion expected by June this year.

“These houses will be completed by June this year. In phase two, we will build 10,000 units in military installations across the country, significantly improving the welfare of our servicemen and women,” said Ruto.

The President also laid the foundation stone for Phase Two of the Roysambu project, which forms part of a broader plan to construct additional units in military installations nationwide.

He said the initiative is designed to uplift the welfare of servicemen and women, noting that for decades, those tasked with protecting the nation had endured inadequate living conditions.

The Roysambu Military Camp Housing Project Phase One—a 500-unit modern housing development—was officially commissioned during the event.

The units will provide upgraded, dignified accommodation for military officers and their families.

The President emphasized that the government is leveraging public-private partnerships to accelerate the Affordable Housing Programme, with deliberate inclusion of disciplined forces to ensure broader access to decent and affordable homes.
