The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has completed the construction of more than 10 kilometers of new road infrastructure within Homa Bay Town, marking a major step in ongoing efforts to modernize urban transport networks in the lakeside town.
The upgraded roads—now fitted with modern bitumen surfaces, functional street lighting, and safe pedestrian walkways—are part of a wider strategy to position Homa Bay as a competitive economic hub in the region.
According to project details, the newly completed network links major residential estates and key social amenities directly to the central business district. Transport experts say the improved connectivity is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and significantly lower operational costs for local businesses.
"This milestone project, which features modern bitumen surfacing, street lighting, and dedicated pedestrian walkways, is part of a broader strategic effort to transform the lakeside town into a premier economic hub," the ministry of roads said in an update.
Residents are also set to benefit from enhanced road safety and improved movement within the town, with the infrastructure designed to accommodate both motorists and pedestrians.

The completion of the 10km stretch adds momentum to the government’s drive to boost urban mobility and stimulate economic growth across secondary cities.
