Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Akothee has finally broken her silence after an online buzz claimed that her daughters were spotted shopping at a budget store in London just after one of them joined school in the UK.

The online buzz began when socialite Edgar Obare shared a paparazzi-style caption claiming that Akothee’s daughters were spotted shopping at Primark in Oxford, with mixed reactions from netizens. Some social media users questioned the lifestyle change, especially after one of her daughters, Vesha, was reported to have joined the prestigious University of Oxford.

However, the outspoken mother of five was quick to clap back at her critics in her characteristic bold manner, taking on the criticism head-on.

In a fiery and humorous post, Akothee defended her parenting and financial decisions, reminding her critics that she is a single mother and not a politician who is funded by taxpayers.

“Mimi my firstborn anasoma UK na mimi sio politician sina pesa ya tax mimi ni single mother,” she wrote.

She continued to challenge the notion that success should be flaunted through expensive shopping sprees, adding a sharp tongue to those who were mocking her children’s shopping choices.

“Just upgrade your brains. Success is not sexually transmitted, if it were so no woman would struggle,” she said.

The “President of Single Mothers Power,” as she jokingly refers to herself, also laughed off the criticism with humor and attitude. “RESPEKT THE CERTIFIED CHIEF OFFICER OF FAILED MARRIAGES. THE MARRIAGE TOURIST 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 THE PRESIDENT OF SINGLE MOTHERS POWER,” she wrote, before playfully challenging her critics: “Ikikuuma sanaaa njoo unichape niko SA na Yesu Jackpot The 7th.”

Her remarks have since generated much debate on Kenyan social media platforms, with many of her fans commending her for teaching financial reality and valuing education over looks. Others came to the defense of her daughters, pointing out that even students in the UK shop at Primark.
