Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has announced the return of the Linda Mama program, promising a revamped version that will be “bigger and better.”

The updated initiative will provide expectant mothers with a comprehensive package, including free antenatal checkups, free delivery services, newborn immunizations, and coverage for delivery-related complications.

Linda Mama Relaunch
“Linda Mama is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever! Expectant mothers can now enjoy free antenatal checkups, free delivery services, immunizations for your baby, and coverage for any complications during delivery,” Muthoni said.

She highlighted that registration for the program is easy, encouraging mothers to sign up by dialing the USSD code *147#, visiting http://sha.go.ke, or going to Huduma Centres, SHA offices, or connecting with Community Health Promoters (CHPs).

Launched in 2018 under the government’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) scheme, Linda Mama was integrated into the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) in 2020.

The program aims to ensure that Kenyan women can access essential maternal health services without financial barriers, promoting safer hospital deliveries and reducing reliance on traditional midwives or home births.

Impact of Linda Mama
The initiative has played a key role in increasing the number of women delivering in hospitals and providing free healthcare services at public hospitals, faith-based institutions, and charitable organizations.
