The Government has allocated KSh900 million towards the construction of a modern 10,000-seater stadium in Wajir County.
The state-of-the-art facility, which will not only nurture talent and stimulate the local economy but will also host the first-ever National Celebrations in Northern Kenya since Independence.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya while accompanying President William Ruto to the groundbreaking ceremony in Wajir town termed the development as a historic milestone that marks a new dawn for sports development in Northern Kenya.
Recently President Ruto directed the Ministry of Sports to fund the construction of the 10,000-seater capacity Kilifi Stadium, foregoing previous fiscal arrangement with the County Government of Kilifi.
CS Mvurya said in two weeks time the contractor taking over construction works at the 15,000-seater capacity Mombasa Stadium will move in and begin to asses the scope of work.
Nanyuki Stadium in Laikipia County and which is a 10,000-seater capacity is also set to have an eight-lane running track.
After an agreement between the national government and Mombasa county, the formal will take over the construction of the 15,000-seater Mombasa Municipal Stadium.
Upgrading and construction of new stadiums is the fulfilment of the Ruto in various counties to create employment opportunities and catalyse the monetization of talents among the youths.
