President William Ruto on Friday voted in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections at Koilel Primary School in Uasin Gishu County, as the ruling party conducted nationwide polls to elect officials at the polling centre level.
The elections are being held in 20 counties, with party members voting to choose 20 officials at each polling centre, in what UDA says is part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy and grassroots leadership.
Speaking after casting his vote, President Ruto commended the high number of candidates who presented themselves for leadership positions, noting that the turnout exceeded expectations.
“I commend all the candidates for stepping forward in numbers far beyond expectation to offer leadership at the grassroots. Their commitment strengthens our party and advances the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which is anchored on inclusive growth and shared prosperity,” the President said.
He also thanked party members who turned out to participate in the exercise, describing the vote as a key expression of democratic choice within the party.
“I appreciate members who have turned out to vote and exercise their democratic right of electing party officials of their choice,” he said.
President Ruto reiterated UDA’s commitment to democratic governance and responsive leadership, saying the party remains focused on listening to citizens and delivering on their priorities.
“As a party, we remain firmly committed to democratic governance and responsive leadership that listens to the people and delivers on their priorities,” he added.
The grassroots elections are expected to form the foundation of UDA’s party structures ahead of future internal and national political processes.
