A section of secondary school teachers and college tutors in Kilifi County have expressed concerns over what appears to be a slowdown by the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) leadership in opening offices where nomination papers have to be submitted by aspirants in readiness for the February elections.

According to the teachers, this has been hindering several candidates from filing their documents within stipulated timelines, thus depressing the chances of some individuals taking part in the election. This is due to the closed Kilifi KUPPET offices.

Some of these aspirants, however, have leveled allegations of misconduct against the Secretary of KUPPET in the Kilifi branch, claiming that the process has lacked transparency. They claim that if the trend is not corrected, they will be left with no choice but to send the documents to the headquarters in Nairobi.

In regard to the matter, the Kilifi KUPPET Secretary has denied the claims, asking the teachers to be patient as the offices are closed for unavoidable reasons while assuring the members that they will make the necessary adjustments to fit all the candidates equally.
