The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a fraud alert following reports of scammers sending fake messages to members of the public demanding payment for alleged traffic violation fines.

In a notice issued on Thursday, NTSA said the fraudulent messages urge recipients to pay the supposed fines through a link shared via SMS and warn of a deadline for payment.

The Authority clarified that the website referenced in the messages, ntsca.cc, is not affiliated with NTSA and urged Kenyans to avoid engaging with the platform.

“We have received reports of fraudsters sending fake traffic fines SMS to the public. We urge the public to avoid clicking the link, refrain from replying to the message and not submit any payments,” NTSA said.

NTSA added that it is working with relevant investigative agencies to address the scam and protect the public from financial loss.

Members of the public who may have already made payments were advised to contact their banks immediately to block or reverse the transactions, and to delete the fraudulent messages from their devices.

The Authority reminded Kenyans that its official SMS short names are NTSA and 22847_NTSA, and that its only legitimate website is ntsa.go.ke. For assistance, the public was advised to reach out via the official email address info@ntsa.go.ke.

The warning comes barely a week after NTSA flagged another fraudulent website targeting Kenyans seeking motor vehicle services, including copy of records and logbook searches.

NTSA reiterated that official motor vehicle copy of records services are only accessible through the NTSA Service Portal via the eCitizen platform, at a fee of Sh550, with results available instantly after payment.

The Authority urged motorists to remain vigilant and verify all NTSA-related communications through official channels.
