Kenya is advancing toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through the Bottom-Up Economic transformational Agenda (BETA).

Dr. Isaac Mwaura, CBS, highlighted the Social Health Authority (SHA) as a new initiative replacing the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), ensuring all Kenyans, including those in informal employment, gain access to comprehensive healthcare services.

SHA’s expanded Linda Mama package addresses maternal and child health, while its thematic funds will improve access to diagnosis and treatment for chronic diseases.

Additionally, President William Ruto’s administration has strengthened international partnerships.

A Labour Mobility Agreement with Germany allows Kenyans legal access to employment and vocational training, while Kenya’s membership in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) provides concessional funding for infrastructure projects.

The government is also investing in the Blue Economy, developing landing sites and aquaculture programs to improve the livelihoods of fishing communities and boost economic growth.

Efforts to combat illegal fishing and strengthen surveillance are also underway. These initiatives demonstrate Kenya’s focus on economic transformation, health, and sustainable development.
