The government has unveiled a series of multi-billion-shilling development projects targeting key sectors in Kiambu County, reaffirming its commitment to improving infrastructure, housing, healthcare, and youth empowerment.

Speaking during a public engagement forum at Kahuguini, Ng’enda Ward in Gatundu South Constituency, Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura said the initiatives reflect the administration’s citizen-centered approach to service delivery.

The meeting brought together senior government officials, including Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Muthoni Wahome, PS for Health Mary Muthoni, PS for Sports Elijah Mwangi, PS for Correctional Services Salome Beacco, and local leaders led by Gatundu South MP GG Kagombe.

Among the flagship projects highlighted was the KSh49.3 billion allocation for affordable housing and market development in Kiambu County. The investment covers major urban centers such as Ruiru, Limuru, Thika, Kikuyu, and Gatundu, and is expected to create jobs, boost small enterprises, and improve living conditions for thousands of residents.

In the energy sector, the government has set aside KSh409 million to connect more than 2,200 households in the county to the national electricity grid, aiming to enhance reliability and expand access to power, particularly in underserved areas.

The government is also prioritizing youth empowerment through the NYOTA Program, which will provide over 100,000 young people nationwide—including those from Kiambu—with KSh50,000 in seed capital each to start or expand their businesses.

In the health sector, residents were encouraged to enroll in the Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme for affordable and accessible healthcare, while ongoing investments in water infrastructure and roads were cited as critical to addressing longstanding challenges in the region.

Dr. Mwaura emphasized that the government’s focus remains on ensuring that every shilling allocated directly impacts citizens, adding that Kiambu’s strategic location makes it a vital hub for Kenya’s economic transformation agenda.

“These projects reflect our firm commitment to equitable development. Kiambu is central to Kenya’s growth story, and we are determined to make it a model for inclusive progress,” he said.
