In an effort to learn from Senegal’s rich sporting culture, Kenya is inclined to take a cue from the country to uplift sports development within her territory as she prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking during the signing of bilateral agreements with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President William Ruto said that the two countries will engage in collaborative projects such as the interchanges of football coaches and athletes and the establishment of joint training camps.

President Ruto pointed out that the fusion of Kenya’s worldwide recognition in athletics with Senegal’s prowess in football will open up more opportunities for the youth and create a deeper cultural relationship heritage between the two countries.

Kenya will be the co-host of the 2027 AFCON with Uganda and Tanzania, four years after the East African region staged the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The tournament will see 19 teams battling for the title, while Kenya will be holding matches in three venues: the soon-to-be 60,000-seat Talanta City Stadium, Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, and Nyayo Stadium.

The government claims that the country is getting ready as scheduled to be able to put on a world-class football spectacle and use the event to energize sporting infrastructure and talent development.
