The first-leg match in the second preliminary round of the continental competition that was to be played in Nairobi tomorrow in the afternoon is now in suspense as the whole country is mourning the death of the veteran statesman.

The authorities have not yet made it clear if the game will be played as usual or postponed due to the national mourning period. Kenya Police FC, the FKF Men’s Premier League champions, went through to this level after a close encounter with Mogadishu City in which they won on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw in the first preliminary round.

On the other hand, Nairobi United, the MozzartBet Cup champions, will play host to Tunisia’s ES Sahel in the first-leg tie of the second preliminary round in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday in Nairobi.

Nairobi United got the round ticket after they knocked out NEC of Uganda, also on away goals, following another 3-3 aggregate result.

The second legs of both continental matches will be played next weekend with the winners set to qualify for the lucrative group stages of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup scheduled for November.

While Kenyans are imbued in the memory of Raila Odinga, a tribute that goes on, the football authorities are expected to come up with a formal announcement regarding the fates of the matches in the next couple of hours.
