The recruitment of 10,000 new police officers is set to go ahead as planned after a legal challenge seeking to halt the process was withdrawn.

A petition filed at the Milimani High Court in Nairobi by lobby group Sheria Mtaani na Shadrack Wambui had sought to block the exercise, requesting a conservatory order against Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and the National Police Service (NPS).

However, during a court hearing on Tuesday, the petitioners informed Justice Lawrence Mugambi of their decision to drop the case. No reasons were provided for the withdrawal.

The Attorney General, the Inspector General, and the NPS did not object to the request.

Justice Mugambi allowed the withdrawal and directed that the matter be closed, effectively lifting any legal barrier to the recruitment drive.

With the court’s clearance, the nationwide recruitment exercise will now proceed between October 1 and October 3 as initially scheduled.
