Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged residents of the Mt. Kenya region not to be misled into abandoning the government for what he described as “clueless politicians with no development agenda.”

Speaking on Friday during the South Imenti Constituency Economic Empowerment Engagement at Nkubu Stadium in Meru County, Kindiki criticized leaders who previously held powerful positions but are now moving across the region urging residents to oppose the government.

He termed the push as retrogressive and a political miscalculation.

“When they were in power, they never bothered to push for any development for the people in this region. After losing their seats, they are lecturing us and telling us to abandon government for uncertainty and the unknown. We cannot and will not allow that to happen,” Kindiki said.

The Deputy President pointed to several development projects already underway in Meru and across Mt. Kenya under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

These include the upgrading of Meru Referral Hospital to Level 6 status to improve healthcare services, the construction of the Sh800 million Gakoromone modern market in Meru town — which will be the largest in the country — and the Sh8 billion redesign of Nithi Bridge to improve road safety.

Other projects are the completion of the long-stalled Nkubu–Uruku Road, the elevation of Mitunguu National Polytechnic, and the planned construction of Mitunguu Airport in South Imenti.

“We are not supporting the President just for the sake of it. We have seen what he has done and what he has planned for the region, and that is why we are saying he should serve for two terms,” the DP emphasized.
