While responding to the National Assembly Committee on Implementation, Mbadi defended the platform worth KSh387 million procured in 2022, as being cheaper than the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) and fitting to reduce expenses, combat corruption, and help small traders. Mbadi told the lawmakers,

“The new system is the future of procurement in the country.” He was further explaining that it has been deployed in 22 state corporations and 4 counties.

The National Assembly Members sought the CS’s clarification if the July commissioning was the result of pressure from foreign sponsors, however, Mbadi rejected the allegations, promising the committee that the system is a government-initiated reform.

“Challenges might come up along the way, but the Treasury is ready to solve them,” the CS said, “The electronic platform will bring public procurement to the next level and strengthen the checks and balances in public resource management.”
