United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has granted provisional certificates to seven aspirants of elective positions in the upcoming November mini-polls. Besides the certificates for parliamentary seats in Mbeere North, Magarini, and Banisa constituencies, the official paperwork was also handed for the wards of Fafi, Purko, Chewani, and Angata Nanyuki.
Indeed this means these candidates will not have to participate in the party primaries of September 20, 2025. On the occasion of the handover, UDA Chairperson and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire pointed out that the party was keen on fielding candidates for most of the vacant seats and was already engaged in training them for face-to-face campaigns.
Besides, she mentioned that the party was equally willing to take advantage of the consensus formed with other political interlocutors to get common candidates and, hence, be able to increase the number of seats for the broad-based government.
“The party is committed to holding a fair process, and where nominations will be necessary, they will be carried out electronically to ensure impartiality,” Mbarire said.
By taking this step, the ruling party is basically sending a signal to intensify political activities as the race for more than 20 seats across the country is about to take off.
Political parties will now be able to use the time left before the mini-polls for campaigning vigorously and mobilizing the required number of votes for their candidates.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has made it clear that the by-elections are scheduled for November and will be conducted to fill vacant positions in various constituencies and wards.
