Hundreds of Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) from Nairobi and Mt Kenya counties have unanimously endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as the region’s link to President William Ruto’s administration.
The ward representatives said they have confidence in Kindiki’s competence, experience and capacity to advance their region’s development needs.
The MCAs noted that most of them were elected on the Kenya Kwanza ticket in the 2022 polls and registered their unequivocal support for President Ruto in his pursuit of equitable development of the country and improving the livelihoods of Kenyans.
"As the president deploys mechanisms to fast-track completion of the stalled development projects and initiation of new ones, we urge all our leaders to champion development in our region in a manner that preserves national unity. We believe in the unity and indivisibility of Kenya," the MCAs said in a supposed dig at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has mainly focused on the Mt Kenya region's development at the expense of the whole country.
While seemingly still hitting Gachagua, the MCAs noted that the ongoing political bickering in the region is largely informed by lack of leadership within the Mt. Kenya region that would bring all the elected leaders and the people from the region together.
The MCAs were drawn from Murang’a, Kiambu, Nairobi, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Isiolo, Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties.
