The government has launched a security operation to curb the rising cases of mugging in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, on Thursday assured Nairobi residents that the government is keen on restoring order and stamping out insecurity.
According to Murkomen, the administration has started an operation aimed at curbing the continuous rise of mugging cases in the Central Business District of Nairobi.“Stealing and mugging cases are issues that should always be addressed all the time.
It is the daily duty of the OCS to take care of these issues. However, if there are operational weaknesses in the police service, we will send officers to those areas,” Murkomen said.
The CS referred to the Panga Boys gang terror in Mombasa that was brought under control earlier this year as an example, saying that the same determination will be used in Nairobi.
Murkomen noted that some of those who attack are underage street kids, while the rest are adult criminals who pretend they are homeless, As the CBD crisis worsens, with pedestrians and commuters complaining of phone snatching, robberies in broad daylight, and harassment by gangs, Murkomen’s statement is in line with this.
The Interior Ministry says that increased patrols, gathering of intelligence, and targeted arrests are all happening at present to bring back safety and trust in Nairobi, the capital city.
