Kilimani Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Moses Ogeto is the new ODM chairman Dagoretti North branch, having been elected unopposed in the party grassroots polls.
Ogeto, a third term county legislator in Nairobi City County Assembly was declared the winner by the returning officer after his opponent, Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi failed to show up during the branch party polls held on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Kilimani Primary School.
On August 5, 2025 ODM National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) chaired by Ms. Emily Awita announced the party grassroots elections for five branches to be held on August 14.
The affected party branches (Constituencies) where polls were scheduled are Matayos in Busia county, Nyando (Kisumu county), Embakasi West, Dagoretti North and Dagoretti South in Nairobi City County.
On August 12, 2025 Nairobi Elections Coordinating Committee chairperson, Mr Mark Wanyanga set the branch polls to be conducted between 10.00 AM and 2.00 PM.
In a letter to the party delegates, Wanyanga prescribed the voting the be done by eligible party delegates, by way of Mulolongo system (queuing) or by raising hands.
Earlier, in April 2025, ODM had suspended Sub – branch (Ward) and Branch (Constituency) elections in Dagoretti North and Dagoretti South, pending resolution of disputes which arose from the party grassroots polls held in November 2024.
Consequently the party had mandated Ogeto to continue serving as Dagoretti North branch chairman under a status quo.
Grassroots polls had also been suspended in Kwale and Taita – Taveta counties as well as Matayos and Nyando branches, over disputes that had arisen from malpractices in highly competitive polls then.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna later announced measures that were taken following a decision of the party Central Committee, on Wednesday APRIL 2, 2025 at the Orange House headquarters, to resolve the disputed grassroots elections.
The Central Committee reviewed reports on appeals that were lodged from disputed grassroots elections that were held on November 27, 2024 in the polling units.
Ogeto is the Majority Whip in Nairobi City County Assembly. The MCA has maintained his loyalty to ODM party in three successive general elections, to clinch Kilimani Ward seat.
During the preliminary grassroots polls in December 2024, ODM delegates aligned to the MCA swept all seats in Dagoretti North constituency polling centers, beating the area MP Elachi hands down, except at Kileleshwa polling center, where officials cancelled the election and nullified the results.
