Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has restated the government’s commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to all Kenyans through ongoing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) reforms.
Speaking on the second day of the 9th Devolution Conference in Homa Bay themed “Human Rights and Social Justice” Duale outlined four key areas driving the reforms: fair deployment of skilled health workers, improved supply of medical commodities through KEMSA reforms targeting a 90% order fill rate, expansion of the digital health superhighway, and restructured health financing under the Social Health Insurance scheme.
He noted that the changes are already delivering results, with fewer maternal deaths, more ICU and HDU beds, better immunization coverage, and expanded access to cancer care, dialysis, and other specialized treatments.
“Social justice in the medical field is that every Kenyan in every county ought to receive quality, affordable, and dignified care,” Duale said, adding that reforms for UHC and devolution complement each other in ensuring prosperity and equity.
He also praised Raila Odinga for his attempts to ensure equity and social justice, and vowed to collaborate with all the actors to ensure devolution delivers.
The meeting was attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Raila Odinga, Council of Governors Chair Ahmed Abdullahi, and leaders of national and county government, among development partners.
