A man was lynched by a mob moments after allegedly killing his sister-in-law in a violent family dispute over trees in Kegochi village, Nyamache, Kisii County.

Police said the suspect, identified as Abraham Nyagaka, 40, attacked and fatally slashed Teresa Abel, 43, in the neck on Monday evening.

The row reportedly began after Nyagaka’s father stopped him from cutting trees on family land and reported the matter to the local chief. The chief warned the suspect against felling the trees until the dispute was resolved.

According to relatives, Nyagaka confronted his father at home demanding answers over the decision. Teresa, unaware of the brewing tension, had gone to visit her sick father-in-law when the suspect allegedly turned on her and attacked without provocation.

Neighbours who responded to her screams chased Nyagaka as he tried to flee. He was caught a few metres from the scene and stoned to death.

Police officers later arrived, moving both bodies to the mortuary for postmortem. They condemned the mob killing, urging residents to hand over suspects to authorities for due process.

In a separate incident in Malindi, Kilifi County, a 69-year-old man was found murdered and his body dumped by the roadside in the Sea Breeze area.

Police identified the victim as Abedi Said Dhidha, who had visible injuries and blood oozing from his mouth. The motive remains unclear, though officers noted that many killings in the area have been linked to land disputes. Investigations are ongoing.
