The death toll from Thursday’s accident involving a Kenya Railways cargo train and a Kenya Pipeline Corporation staff bus at Morendat junction in Naivasha has risen to nine.

The fatal crash occurred when the train rammed into the bus, which was ferrying 33 employees from a morning shift, at a railway crossing along the Naivasha–Kasarani road.

According to Naivasha County Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Bernard Warui, seven people died on the spot, while two others succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital’s casualty wing.

He added that 2 other victims were treated and discharged, 2 are still receiving care at the facility with another 12 casualties transferred to other hospitals.
