Kenya Airways has announced the return of one of its grounded Dreamliner aircraft to service on July 22, 2025, marking a major milestone in the airline’s fleet recovery following months of global supply chain disruptions and engine shortages.
Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka said the resumption of Dreamliner operations will ease capacity challenges that had reduced the airline’s fleet capability by 20% since late 2024.
“This is a significant milestone for our fleet and operations. The return of the Dreamliner will restore our operational capacity to 85%, ensuring a smoother travel experience for our customers,” said Kilavuka.
The airline confirmed that two additional Dreamliners are expected to rejoin the fleet on September 25 and December 19, 2025, respectively.
To further strengthen capacity, Kenya Airways plans to add three narrow-body aircraft to its fleet by the fourth quarter of 2025. These additions will provide 528 more seats and boost belly cargo capacity by 239%.
Kilavuka also acknowledged the recent operational challenges, including flight delays, cancellations, and schedule changes, largely attributed to delayed aircraft parts.

“We understand the impact these disruptions have had on our customers’ travel plans. We are working tirelessly to resolve these issues and optimise our network,” he assured.
The CEO thanked the Kenya Airways technical team and partners for their dedication in restoring aircraft to service, and also lauded staff for their continued professionalism and signature African hospitality during this difficult period.
“Our commitment to safety, comfort, and reliable service remains unwavering. We appreciate our customers’ continued patience and support,” Kilavuka added.
