Lawyer Kepha Ojijo has petitioned the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to strike Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and Roads CS Kipchumba Murkomen from the Roll of Advocates, accusing them of enabling police violence during the Gen Z protests.

Ojijo submitted the motion to LSK on Monday, saying both officials, while holding key security portfolios failed to stop or speak out against the use of force on demonstrators.

He claims their silence and continued identification as advocates undermines the legal profession.

“They watched as people were killed, injured, and abducted, yet still call themselves officers of the court,” the petition reads in part.

Ojijo wants LSK to call a Special General Meeting to vote on the matter. If not, he says the case should be taken to the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal.

“If they want to be politicians, let them stop hiding behind the title of advocate,” he said.

Kindiki and Murkomen have not responded to the claims. Rights groups say several young protesters disappeared or were harmed during the protests. The state has denied responsibility.

If the petition proceeds, it would be a rare disciplinary case involving two Cabinet members who started their careers in law before shifting to politics.
