Andrew Mudibo, the long-serving President of the Kenya Table Tennis Association (KTTA), has been barred from contesting in the upcoming National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) elections following a ruling by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT).
In a decision delivered on the eve of the elections, the SDT declared that KTTA was not a legally recognized sports body under the Sports Act, 2013 at the time it participated in the NOC-K electoral process.
As a result, the Tribunal ruled that KTTA’s nomination of Mudibo for an elective position was invalid.
Mudibo had intended to run for the position of Secretary General, where he was set to face off against weightlifting’s John Ogolla. However, the Tribunal’s ruling effectively nullifies KTTA’s involvement in the 2025 NOC-K elections, disqualifying Mudibo from the race.
Further, the SDT directed the formation of an Interim Management Committee for KTTA. The committee must be composed of individuals who have not held office for more than eight years, in accordance with paragraph 20(6) of the Second Schedule to the Sports Act.
The Interim Committee has been given 60 days to convene a lawful and transparent Annual General Meeting, conduct fresh elections and regularize KTTA’s governance structures, including registration of county associations and demonstrating active presence in at least 24 counties, as required under Regulation 4(3)(c) of the Sports Registrar’s Rules, 2016.
Additionally, KTTA must submit compliance documentation—including CRB clearance, KRA, NHIF, NSSF, HELB compliance, and passport photos—for all interim and eventual office bearers to the Sports Registrar before any elections are held.
This ruling marks a significant turning point for KTTA, signaling a call for reforms and compliance within Kenya’s sports governance landscape.
