The General Officer Commanding Eastern Command (GOC EASTCOM), Major General Luka Kutto, conducted a high-level visit to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops engaged in Operation Amani Boni, reinforcing the military’s resolve to neutralize threats and secure Kenya’s northeastern frontier.
Maj Gen Kutto was received at Kenya Navy Base Manda Bay by Commander Operation Amani Boni Brigadier William Kamoiro and Brigadier Lazarus Wafula, the Commander of the Base. The commanders briefed him on the prevailing security dynamics, including the persistent threat of Al–Shabaab insurgents in the region.
Speaking during a troop baraza at Manda Bay, Maj Gen Kutto commended the soldiers for their dedication and urged them to stay alert, mission-focused, and collaborative across the multi-agency security team. He emphasized continued dominance of the region to disrupt enemy movements and safeguard national security.
While inspecting forward operating positions along the LAPSSET Corridor, he underlined the troops’ critical role in protecting one of Kenya’s flagship infrastructure projects. “Your presence is not just military—it is economic. You are defending Kenya’s future,” he said.
Beyond operations, Maj Gen Kutto addressed troop welfare, highlighting mental health support, emotional resilience, and financial literacy as key pillars of a professional, ready force.
The visit bolstered troop morale and reaffirmed KDF’s commitment to peace and stability in the Boni Enclave. Maj Gen Kutto’s field engagement illustrated leadership that balances strategic vision with frontline presence, reinforcing that Kenya’s fight against insecurity is as much about protecting the nation as it is about uplifting its defenders.
