Kenyan singer and songwriter Naiboi has officially made his long-awaited return to music after a four-year break. Fans of the ‘2 in 1’ hitmaker, who had been eagerly wondering about his absence, were thrilled when he announced the release of his new song, Ananitaka, featuring fellow Kenyan artist Iyanii.
Naiboi took a step back from music in 2020 when he relocated to the United States, disappearing from the limelight. His absence sparked curiosity among his followers, who flooded his social media accounts with questions about his whereabouts. However, the singer remained silent until October 2024, when he resurfaced, much to the delight of his fans.
The journey leading to Naiboi’s return has not been easy. In 2021, he publicly expressed his frustration with his former record label, Universal Music Group. He revealed that his creative output was severely hindered, as he had written over 800 songs but couldn’t release them due to the constraints of his contract. “All I ever wanted is to release music for my fans. And I know my fans are worried, wondering what’s up with Naiboi. My hands have been tied for almost two years now. And I am tired of being at the mercy of these people,” he shared in an emotional statement.
By 2022, Naiboi had severed ties with Universal Music Group, gaining the freedom to produce and release his own music. However, it wasn’t until 2025 that he finally returned with new material. On his social media, Naiboi reflected on his struggles, expressing relief and excitement at his newfound freedom. “Finally free to release music. Been a tough three-year situation. But hey, why complain when I can finally kill them with it?” he wrote.
Naiboi urged his followers to stay tuned for more music and to subscribe to his YouTube channel, Naiboi Worldwide, marking the official start of his comeback.
