482 newly training National Police Reservists have been sent by the National Police Service to the Northeastern and Coastal regions to increase security. This was disclosed by Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat.

During a visit to Tana River County, Lagat in addition to the pass out parade of reservists at Madogo Police Station in Bangali Sub, county, also presided over the meeting of police officers who were recruited from Lamu and Tana River Counties and are expected to play a crucial role in solving the security problems that have been affecting the region for a long time.

Lagat pointed out that the reservists will be of great help to the regular police squads in managing the various forms of insecurity such as banditry, terrorism, and livestock theft, which have been causing havoc in parts of the two counties.

The Deputy Inspector General also inspected a disarmament operation which is underway and will target illegal guns after recent inter, clan fighting. He said that in Bangali Sub, county, nine illegal guns have already been handed over, and he credits the great cooperation between the police and the locals for this achievement.

However, Lagat sounded a warning to those who will not voluntarily hand over their illegal firearms within the 60 day amnesty period that runs out next month, that there will be a forceful disarmament operation to be called after them.
